STORIES WITH AFRICAN SPIRIT
Craft Spirits, with stories as distinct as their flavour profiles
From Agave cultivated in the Karoo, to Gins from the most Biodiverse floral kingdom in the world, each one of our craft spirits has a story too unique to keep to ourselves.
We believe in starting traditions, not following them - Pienaar & Son
Pienaar & Son is a small craft distillery located in the Silo District of Cape Town Harbour.
Nestled next to the waters edge, this tiny distillery goes about its business finding fresh ways of creating and introducing people to quality, modern spirits.
Although they more than appreciate traditional methods and the history of distillation, the notion that ‘older is better’ could not be further from their opinionated truth.
Their “Master Distiller” just entered his 30s, all of their equipment is newly hand built locally and their processes are based off cutting edge nerdy engineering principles developed by the chemical engineering brains behind the operation.
A father with more than 40 years of distilling technology experience and his stubborn son, hand crafting spirits with science and art, they believe in starting traditions, not following them.
Worthy of the name of the long-tailed songbird - Sugarbird Cape Fynbos Spirits
Promerops cafer, or Cape Sugarbird as she is known, is the dusty copper-brown, long-tailed songbird, endemic to the regions where we source our spirit range's floral ingredient profile.
She is a specialist nectar feeder and will be found roaming in search of perfect nectar, her long feathers, with the tell tale yellow, flitting between protea and fynbos buds.
Like us, she would be nothing without Proteaceae (and indeed they without her) She is the graceful, unassuming, yet diligent hustler of the Cape Floral Kingdom she calls her home.
She is our ideal ambassador for the genesis of our journey which began with gin, ambition and entrepreneurial spirit.
The taste of the capea lightly floral gin, reminiscent of London Dry, she offers notes of rooibos, honeybush, rose geranium and the Cape May Flower, sourced by botanists from the slopes of our iconic mountain. Perfect on ice or as a mixer, Sugarbird Gin is perfect for socialising or collaborating over big ideas.
The Lockdown-inspired gin - Lean On Me Gin
A Lockdown-inspired gin to remind us of the good times we’ve had, the better times to come, the friends we all need to help us carry on, and as a reminder that - let's face it, we all need somebody to 'Lean on.'
Meticulously crafted in the Western Cape, home to the world's smallest yet richest floral kingdom, Lean on me is infused with the region's unique fynbos botanicals, and captures the essence of this rich biodiversity.
A perfectly rounded floral-driven gin with refreshing undertones of Citrus Peel, Cape Fynbos and Juniper. Top notes of Hibiscus, Rose Geranium, and a subtle touch of Buchu, providing the gin with a distinct personality and a rich tapestry of flavours.
